Tuesday Tech Question (04/08)

The Tuesday Tech Question is a fun section where prospective technical inspectors or anyone who wants to get a better idea of how to work the NHRA Rulebook can test their knowledge and search abilities. If you have an NHRA Rulebook, try and find the answer to the question in the book before looking down at the answer. If you don’t have a Rulebook but are an NHRA Member, you can download a pdf at nhra.com under ‘Member Benefits’.

Question:

I had a Technical Inspector tell me that, even though they were dated the same year, my 3.2A/15 fire suit was expired, but my 38.1 head and neck restraint was still legal.  Could you provide me with some more information?

Fire Suit Frank

Answer:

Fire Suit Frank,

A 3.2A/15 and 3.2A/20 suit is considered legal for 5 years.  The date on the suit is included in that 5 year span.  A 38.1 head and neck restraint expires at the end of the month marked, 5 years after being inspected.  For a better clarification, please refer to the chart below.
