Trevin Walberg ~ World of Speed Fall Jr Thunder Champion

In the World of Speed Fall Jr Thunder Series, students of the sport ages 8-12 competed in the five race series to see who would be the champs of the Autumn series.  Last year, it was Dylan Hough winning the tie-breaker over Conner Rice to secure the championship.  This year, it was a prior Summer Series Champion who claimed another victory.

At the first event of the series, held on September 6th, it was Ramon Vincent and Conner Rice competing in the finals. Vincent defeated a Rice courtesy of a reaction time advantage of over .1, followed by running a 12.047 on his 11.98 dial-in.  At the next event, on the 21st, it was Trevin Walberg defeating Conner Rice in the final round after Rice turned on the red light by .001. Despite the red light, Rice now held a one round lead over Walberg and Vincent.

The third point’s event is when a trend became apparent.  Trevin Walberg reached his second straight final, this time defeating recently crowned NHRA Division 6 Jr Thunder Champion Alisha Miller in the final round. With reaction times separated by only .001, the win came via Walberg’s 8.913 on the 8.90 dial-in. The second to last World of Speed Jr Thunder event brought Lorenzo Gonzalez and Trevin Walberg into the final. In the final round, Walberg had the reaction time advantage (by .102) and Gonzalez ran closer to his dial-in (by .126) meaning the margin of victory of just .024 went in favor of Gonzalez.  However, with Walberg’s third straight final round appearance, his point’s lead was up to 7 rounds, a nearly insurmountable amount with just the one event remaining.  At the season ending event, Trevin Walberg made his way into the final round looking to put a pin on the five race series. And, with a resonating .021 reaction time in the final round to win against Nicholas Karr on a hole shot, ‘put a pin on it’ is exactly what he did! With 330 Points, 15 Round Wins, 3 Event Wins, and 1 Runner-Up finish, 2014 World of Speed Jr Thunder Champion…Trevin Walberg!
