John Plaster ~ Olympic Iron Works Harley Champion

The Olympic Iron Works Harley Eliminator category is one that takes any Harley or Buell powered/framed motorcycle and lines them up side-by-side to see who is the best of the baddest.  Last year in this class’ inaugural year, the competition was racing for second as John Plaster ‘plastered’ the rest of the field to secure the championship.  Could it happen two years in a row?? Only one way to find out!

At the first Olympic Iron Works Harley Eliminator event, it was last year’s season champion into the final to face off against Miles Furrow.  The Champ, John Plaster, was able to secure the victory via a double-breakout situation at the finish line,by just under .2 seconds. At the second event, held on Saturday of the Rose Festival Drags, class sponsor Gary Tokos was the one who claimed the victory after John Plaster was unable to fire. With two of the six events under the table, the points had Plaster first with 120, Tokos second with 110, and Miles Furrow sitting third with 80 points.

The third race was held during the Night of Fire, and featured Gary Tokos getting his second straight win—this time over John Conley, who left with a red light start. The next two events would be held in conjunction with the Nitro Motorcycle Nationals event, which in 2015 will be held on August 29-30th. Saturday’s event had Mike Graver and Dana Herold in the final round, as a pair of riders who hadn’t yet tasted a win in 2014 were duking it out for that privilege.  In that glory round, it was Graver with the starting line advantage (.028 to a .057) and then Graver with the better run, completing his pass with an 11.449 at 112.64 miles per hour to earn the victory. On Sunday, it was Sue Bistline and Tim Johnson.  After Sue Bistline had defeated four men earlier, she made it 5 for 5 after Johnson broke out at the finish line. With one race remaining, the points standings were as follows: John Plaster with 250, Tokos with 240, and Graver with 230 points.

The final Harley Eliminator event showcased Bob Osborne and John Plaster in the final round. After Plaster eliminated Tony Morgan and then earned a single, the championship was locked up as he went into his third final of the season. Unfortunately for Plaster, it was a short final when he turned on the red light by just -.009, meaning that Bob Osborne would earn the victory, as well as the bonus money from Olympic Iron Works.
