Street Machine I Champion – Steve Stuart

Street Machine I, the class in which cars ranging from 1960-1975 and running 7.00 to 11.99, featured close racing throughout the entire season. Heading into the final race of the season, there were six different racers with a shot at the title. Unfortunately for five of them, the points leader won that event! Steve Stuart claimed the championship, but it wasn’t an easy ride.
At the April 21 opening event, Dave Bronec scored the victory over Stuart. The next event was victorious in the name of Dom Andreotti over Allen Bayless on May 5th. The Oldies But Goodies race’s victory was declared in the name of Stuart over John LaRoche, while the following event had Chris Ross taking the win over Dan Stokes. At the Hot Rod Nationals, Tom Clark scored a big time victory over Erik Pierson at the largest fielded class of the year. At the final event, the top three were as followed: Steve Stuart with 270, Allen Bayless with 260, and Dan Stokes with 240. As was stated before, six different racers had a chance to score the championship, but when the dust settled and Stuart’s wheel standing Chevelle came down with a win over Bronec, avenging his loss earlier in the season, he was declared your champion.

The top three points earners are listed by driver name, points earned, and rounds won.

Steve Stuart, 360 Points, 19 Round Wins
Allen Bayless, 290 Points, 11 Round Wins
