Pressel, Pliska, Hilsendager, & Welter Score Wins On Day 2 Of The Night of Fire/ET Bracket Triple Crown
Day number 2 of the Baxter Auto Parts/Sunbelt Rentals/Bi-Mart 2nd Annual Night of Fire/K & N Filters ET Bracket Triple Crown was, in one word, huge. The parking lot was filled to the limit and the crowd was full of life as Scott Arriaja and Richard Smith brought the show to a close with their jet dragsters blasting down track at speeds of 295 mph. Jim Obalek, driving Twig Ziegler’s Nitro Funny Car, blasted through the traps in 6.05 seconds with Gary Eickmann’s Nitro Funny Car on his tail at 227 mph. The Top Alcohol Funny Cars of Molalla’s Jim Peters and Keizer’s Jeff Ashwell ran 6.12 and 5.85 at 220 and 245 mph respectively. Justin Brenneman made a 162 mph blast in his A/FX Dodge. Ed Jones brought smiles to everyone’s faces with his wheel-standing 1875 Concord Stage Coach and Jelly Belly treats. In BB/Funny Car action Don Harter drove his ’78 Corvette to the win (6.76 at 204.59 mph) over Matt Driscol’s ’72 Plymouth (6.73 at 210.67 mph).
Earlier in the day, Randy Pressel downed Sadie Floyd in the finals of the K & N Filters ET Bracket Triple Crown Electronics class, earning him the $3,000 top prize. Mike Pliska met, and defeated Brad Craig in the finals of Non-Electronics and earned $1500 for his efforts. The K & N Filters Non-Electronics Ultimate Gambler worth $2,500 was won by Rick Welter. The K & N Filters Electronics Gambler came down to Danny Wargnier and Mike Hilsendager meeting for $3,400. Hilsendager launched with a perfect light and ran 7.525 on his 7.50 dial-in to claim the win.
