Nostalgia Hot Rod Series & Jr’s Shine on Cinco de Mayo
Paul Carbaugh earned his second consecutive victory in the Nostalgia Hot Rod Series Stick Shift Class on May 5th. Other winners were Richard Dietrich, Tim McDaniel, Dom Andreotti, Rick Olson, Gregg Heriford, and Walt Pearce. Meanwhile Dustin Day, Justin Harmon, and Tommy Tallon picked up the victories in the three classes of the Woodburn Dragstrip Jr. Series. As a matter of interest, in the Jr. classes, each of last week’s winners lost in the first round at this event. In addition, Dallas Hill and Gary Wargnier were the champs in the day’s Jr. Tuff and Gamblers classes, respectfully.
In the Nostalgia Hot Rod Series, winning at this event moved the victor atop the point standings in each of their respective classes. Richard Dietrich was brutal on the tree with a perfect light in the finals of Top Gas to take the victory over Marty Stewart. Tony Schroeder raced his 8 second ’62 Belair to a semi-final finish. Dietrich, the 2011 series champion, moved into first place in the point standings with his victory. Tim McDaniel was victorious over wheels-up Gary Fetters and moved into first place in the points in Hot Rod I with Daren Wilson as the semi-finalist. Dom Andreotti also moved atop the points standings with his win over Allen Bayless in Street Machine I. Estacada’s Steve Stuart took semi-final honors. In Hot Rod II, with his victory over Del Sechler, Rick Olson moved into first place in the points while Lyle Scott was the lone semi-finalist. Jimmy Heriford raced his ’64 Galaxie to the win in Street Machine II. With his win over Spencer David, Heriford also moved atop the points standings. Wesley Williams claimed the semi-final finish. Paul Carbaugh drove his ’62 Chevy to victory in the Stick Shift class, while Randy Ashley was runner up. Dick Arnold and Barry Sheasgreen were semi-finalists. With two consecutive wins, Carbaugh moved solidly into first place in the series points. With his win over Doug Powers in the Inline/Flathead class, Walt Pearce moved into a tie with Jim Johnson for first place in the series. Richard Bjerklund and Jerry Stauffer claimed semi-final honors.
Qualifying in the Woodburn Dragstrip Jr. Dragster series produced the following top qualifiers:
Jr. Fast – Kacee Pitts .002
Jr. Lightning – Boyd Eickmann .003
Jr. Thunder – Tommy Tallan ..024
In the Jr. Dragster series, Dustin Day drove his Jr. Fast dragster to victory over Spencer David. Each driver was excellent as Spencer had a .003 but was second to Dustin’s perfect .000. Tucker Tooke Terry took over first place in the point standings with a semi-final finish. Jessie Skerjanec was the other semi-finalist. In Jr. Lightning, Justin Harmon earned the win over Jerold Mix while Boyd Eickmann had a semi-final finish. Carson Wheeler sits atop the current point standings. Tommy Tallan was victorious over Maria Marroquin in Jr. Thunder and vaulted into a first place tie with Dylan Hough in the point standings.
In Jr. Tuff, Dallas Hill was victorious over Emily Mix in the finals, with A. J. Harmon and Trevin Wallberg in the semi-finals. Gary Wargnier was victorious over Greg Heriford in the Gambler’s race while Gary Palmateer earned semi-final honors.
