Champions Crowned At Nostalgia Hot Rod Series – Fall ET & Jr Series Winners
The day was Saturday, September 29th as we ran the final event of the 6 race Nostalgia Hot Rod Series, and crowned our champions. Additionally, we featured the 2nd Fall ET Series and Jr. Fall Series race as well. Overall it was a great day of racing after the early morning clouds burned off, and a good time was had by all, as in accustom here at Woodburn Dragstrip.
In the Top Gas category, the answer was simple for Richard Dietrich. After Travis Hilton, the incoming points leader red-lit in first round, he had to advance to the final round, and he did so by taking the victory over Debbie Dawson. In Hot Rod I, Jim Pray took the win over Todd McMillan, but Paul Comeau was able to hold on with the Championship after getting into a spare car for the first round of eliminations. The cause of that confusion for Comeau came when father Bob Comeau broke his beautiful blue racing machine in time trials. However, Bob showed his racing abilities by taking ‘Ol Gold’ to the victory over Ryan Smith in the Hot Rod II category. In Street Machine I, the story was the same as it’s been for the majority of the year: Stuart takes the win. Steve Stuart took a .008 reaction time to the win over Dave Bronec. In Street Machine II, Gordon Cady Jr. won the battle but Jimmy Heriford won the war as he took the Championship when Cady fell one round short. In the Stick Shift category, Jim Wise took the win over George Wise (no relation) after George went zero, zero, THREE red on the starting line. Inline/Flathead featured another Champion winning the final race as Michael Bjerklund took the win over Jerry Stauffer.
In the Fall E.T. Series, Dan Shepherd took the win over Dennis Weddle after Weddle turned on the dreaded red light in the Electronics class. Robert Steffen used his starting line advantage to take the win over Fred Nicholas in Trans Brake. In Foot Brake, Curt Landis used a large starting line head start to take the win over Jeff Marchi, and in the Run Tuff Category Gregg Heriford took his 1972 Chevrolet Vega GT to the win over Wally Sowins. In the Jr Fall Series, Dustin Day repeated his first event showing with a win over Casey Ladd in Lightning. In Thunder, Connor Rice scored his first career victory over your 2012 E.T. Finals Thunder Champion, Kyler Pitts. In Run Tuff, Kacee Pitts took the win over Alexander Wise.
