Back to Back Wins for Jackson at Sunoco Race Fuels ET Series on 5/6/12
May 6, 2012 was a day for former track champions as Mark Dawson, Nick Shepherd, and Derrick Jackson earned the victories in Super Pro, Pro, and Sportsman, respectively. Two-time Super Pro Champion, Mark Dawson, (2005 and 2008) moved up within 10 points of first place in the point standings with his win while both Shepherd (2010 & 2011 Pro Champion) and Jackson (seven time Sportsman Champion) are the current outright leaders in the series point standings. In addition, Sunday’s race action saw Mark Boehi earning the win in Super Shifter class while William Breese topped all others in the Run Tuff Competition.
In the popular A-1 Performance Transmissions and Converters “Package for the Points” competition, three racers emerged with the win and the bonus 10 points. For 2012, Vicki Shepherd leads all racers for Hoosier Tires Northwest award with her fantastic .006 package earned April 15th. Winners from May 6th along with their package and product awarded are:
Super Pro – Scott Nuciforo .029 (Lucas Oil Products)
Pro – Matt Kielman .020 (Pico Wiring Accessories)
Sportsman – Karl Hart .050 (Abby’s Pizza-Woodburn)
In Super Pro, Dawson was right on his game against David Pracht as he gained a .021 reaction time advantage and crossed the stripe with an .023 margin of victory. Dennis Weddle and Robert Glembocki earned the semi-final finish and the accompanying points.
The two veteran Pro finalists battled to a double break-out affair, with Shepherd winning by the slightest margin. His .014 breakout was just .001 better than the .015 breakout which Steve Stuart ran with his dynamic ’66 Chevelle. Eli Taghon raced his ’72 Chevy to a semi-final finish.
Woodburn racer, Karl Hart put up a significant challenge to the reigning Sportsman champion, Derrick Jackson. Hart had a .007 advantage at the tree but Jackson was able to drive past him for the .014 margin of victory. John Floyd, Jr. and Marty Arrigotti were semi-finalists.
John Masterman, the defending Super Shifter Champion, currently sits atop the point standings. His point standings was made more secure with his runner-up finish to first-time winner, Mark Boehi. Boehi was flawless in his ’78 Camaro, going five rounds for his victory over John Masterman. Mark’s perfect light in round four paved the way to the finals where he took a .04 second advantage at the tree and cruised to the win. Brent Russell looked great in his ’12 Camaro and earned a semi-final finish for his efforts.
William Breese is experiencing increasing confidence with his 92 Eagle Talon, picking up the victory over 2011 Super Pro Champion, Dave Sattem in the finals of Run Tuff. Scott Nuciforo scored a semi-final finish with his 8-second Monza.
