Street Machine I Champion Gregg Heriford
Gregg Heriford attended all five events in the 2011 Woodburn Dragstrip Nostalgia Hot Rod Series with his quick and clean Street Machine I ’72 Vega. He won the first event in the series on May 25 and maintained his points lead throughout the duration of the series. A total of 82 racers competed in at least one event in this series but none could match Herriford’s accomplishments.
As stated earlier, Gregg’s run toward the championship began with his win over Jay Phillips on May 28th. Heriford stayed on track at the Oldies but Goodies, where his semi-final finish gave him a 40 point lead over Bruce Riedl, who earned the victory over Carl Wilkerson on June 26th. Richard Potter took the win on July 7th while Jeff Sievers was victorious over Tony Price at the Hot Rod Nationals on August 14th. Heriford’s quarter-final finish gave him a virtually insurmountable lead over all others. At the final event on Sept 10th, Cliff Mansfield defeated John Rheinberger.
When all points for the series were tallied, Tony Price, Allen Bayless, and Richard Potter finished tied for 6th. Jeff Sievers finished in 5th place. Jay Phillips, John Rheinberger, and Bruce Riedl finished in a 3-way tie for 2nd and Gregg Heriford earned the title as Street Machine I Champion in the 2011 Nostalgia Hot Rod Series.
