Jeff Enger Takes Hot Rod II Championship
Jeff Enger races a ’32 Ford Victoria while John Hite races a ’55 Chevy. They had quite the battle to determine the championship in Hot Rod II at Woodburn Dragstrip in 2011. Both attended equal number of races and won an equal number of rounds. To complicate the matter further, neither could attend the final event. But it was Jeff’s win at the July 9th event and the bonus 10 points for earning the event win that gave him the 10-point margin over John thus crowning Jeff Enger as the 2011 Woodburn Dragstrip Hot Rod II Champion.
Thirty three racers entered competition in this class. The first event, held May 28th was taken by Ryan Smith over John Hite. At the second event, the Oldies but Goodies, it was Chuck Lawrence with his ’32 Ford taking the win over Bob Comeau. At the third event on July 7th, Enger earned the win over Lyle Scott. With this win, Jeff moved into a 10-point lead over John Hite. He would maintain that lead at the final event as neither John nor Jeff could attend while Casey Allum took the victory over Bob Comeau.
With two runner-up finishes, Bob Comeau with his ’39 Chevy Coupe finished third, while Lyle Scott with his ’37 Chevy was fourth and Ryan Smith’s ’56 Studebaker and Ken French’s ’39 Chevy finished tied for fifth.
