Wheeler, Varner, Vincent, and Pedro score at first Napa Auto Parts Jr Drag Racing Series event

Carson Wheeler, Austin Varner, Ramon Vincent, and Kaylen Pedro showcased their driving talents at the first running of the Napa Auto Parts Jr Drag Racing Series, April 13th 2013. Along with a day of testing, the first of the Napa Auto Parts sponsored series held action-packed racing that included tight finishes and family performances.
In Jr Fast, featuring drivers age 13-17, Wheeler showed that there will be no sophomore slump for him, as he marched through the rounds, taking out Pedro and Dustin Day on his way to the final. On the other side of the ladder, Jerold Mix downed Champion Sparkplugs sponsored Taylor Toftemark and then sister Emily before lining up against Wheeler. In the final, Wheeler was off to a .045 advantage on the start and never looked back, winning on a double breakout by 12 thousandths of a second, giving Wheeler the early lead in Jr Fast.
In Jr Lightning, 10-14 year olds, it was a family affair as Austin Varner took down younger sister Liz in the final. Varner had a single pass in the first round before having his opponent break against him in the second round, sending him into the final. Meanwhile, sister Liz eliminated Shawn Cranford in the first round with nearly identical reaction times, and then Chad Tallan in the second round to face off against her brother. In the final, reaction times were separated by a mere .05, and after another double-breakout, this time separated by .025, the win went to Austin Varner.
Jr Thunder, showing off the young guns age 8-10, featured the final of Ramon Vincent and Conner Rice. Ramon’s journey to the final round had competition from Austin Weigel and Nicholas Karr. For Rice, the fight for the final round was through Tommy Tallan and Trevin Walberg. In the final round, Ramon used a sizable .14 starting line differential to his advantage, and then went down and ran a 14.133 on his 14.13 dial in for an overall .1 package.
Jr Tuff competition had fresh drivers in the finals, those of Kaylen Pedro and Alisha Miller. Off the starting line, Kaylen was down by over two tenths of a second, but battled back after a break out by Miller to take the victory. Dylan Hough and Anthony Friesen were the semi-finalist.
