Street Machine II Champion – Jimmy Heriford
Any time that a series championship comes down to a round of racing…you know the season was absolutely intense. Jimmy Heriford came out on the positive end of that one round of racing over series runner-up Gordon Cady Jr, but it wasn’t without its fair share of dramatic events.
At the Street Machine II (cars 1960-’75 12.00 & slower) opening event on April 21, Robert Glafka scored a close victory over Jimmy Heriford. At the next event, Heriford took it to a higher level by winning the event over High School standout Spencer David. The Oldies but Goodies event on June 24th showcased eventual series champion Heriford and runner up in the final as Cady Jr. started his late season surge with a victory over Heriford, while the following event had Dave Wilson achieving the victory over Marty Arrigotti. With two events left, the top three in points were Heriford with 280, Wilson with 220 and Cady Jr. with 200. However, Cady poured on the coals with a runner up at the Hot Rod Nationals to Randy Nichols, and then a win at the final event over Heriford. Despite Gordon Cady Jr. going a dominating 14-1 in his final 15 rounds of racing, he was unable to catch the early lead put on by Jimmy Heriford, claiming the latter as your 2012 Street Machine II Champion
