Petersen, Mauch, Arrigotti, & Nelson Are Victorious at GM Showdown

Cool weather paved the way for amazing race action at the 15th Annual Buy.Sell.Ride GM Showdown event.  A special thank you to the Goat Herd GTO Club of Oregon for helping out and promoting a great car show, which showcased many spectacular vehicles.  Drag racing winners for the day were Kevin Petersen (Super Pro), Rich Mauch (Pro), Marty Arrigotti (Sportsman), and John Nelson (Run Tuff).  With racing action as tight as ever, and the great car show awards being given out, the GM Showdown was one that should not be missed!

Super Pro competition ended up being a battle between Kevin Petersen’s ’56 Chevy Pickup and Ron Pappel’s ’27 Roadster.  Petersen’s journey to the final was through Dennis Weddle and Bob Drummond.  For Pappel: Dale Baldwin and Richard Trickey were the victims.  In the final round, Petersen had a .026 starting line advantage before Pappel broke out at the finish line by .020, handing Petersen his second straight win after his final round performance at last weekend’s Rose Festival Drags.  Drummond was the number one qualifier with a .004 reaction time.

In the Pro Bracket event, it was a pair of fresh faces in the final.  One half of the ladder produced Richard Mauch, who earned the first round single before defeating AJ Willingham, Steve Stuart and Dom Andreotti.  From the other half of the ladder came Rochelle Pappel, who defeated Bart Yates, Tami Nelson, a single and Mike Grady to advance to the final.  In the final round, Pappel was striving to ‘avenge’ her father’s defeat but was unable to get it done when Mauch’s .075 package was too much to handle.  Steve Stuart qualified number one with the .022 reaction time.

Sportsman category eliminations consisted of a pair of excellent racers, in the form of Marty Arrigotti and last year’s ET Finals Sportsman category runner-up Karl Hart.  For Arrigotti, getting into the final round meant downing a single, Kris McIssac, and Paul Warner.  On the other side of the ladder, Hart defeated opponents Dell King, Sergeo Basargin, and Randy Nichols.  In the final round, Marty Arrigotti uncorked a 12.986 on his 12.98 dial-in to down Hart, despite Hart running a 13.460 on his 13.40.  Basargin was the number one qualifier with a 003.

As is a custom to a large majority of our events, a Run Tuff category was contested, giving all competitors who lost first round in normal eliminations a second chance.  In the final round, John Nelson secured victory over Pam Hitchcock after Hitchcock turned on the red light by just 37 thousandths of a second. Keevan Lynn and Brad Mathews were the semi-finalist.

Another great feature for the GM Showdown was the Car Show, put on by the Goat Herd GTO Club of Oregon.  With fierce competition, prizes were awarded to:

Pontiac1st Place: Jason Baird, 2006 GTO; 2nd   Place: Gary Dillon, 1967 GTO

Chevrolet 1st   Place: Randy Devornsey, 1966 SS; 2nd Place: 1954 Chevy

Best Paint: John Brewer. 1968 GTO; Best Engine: Jason Baird. 2006 GTO

Listed are final round results in order of driver name, residence, (year & make/model), [reaction time], elapsed time, miles per hour, and (dial-in).
