King of the Track to Sattem, National Dragster Challenge to King, Stuart, Jackson & Wolff

Congratulations are definitely in order to Woodburn Dragstrip racer, Super Pro Champion, Dave Sattem, who earned the 2011 NHRA Woodburn Dragstrip King of the Track title with his defeat of 2011 Pro Champion, Nick Shepherd. Sattem used a .008 reaction time to launch his ’99 dragster in the final and ran 7.81 at 168 mph in the victorious lap. Shepherd did his best to keep ahead of the fast-closing dragster, but broke out by running 10.619 on his 10.63 dial in. In the semi-finals, Sattem and 2011 Sportsman Champion, Derrick Jackson launched with nearly identical reaction times (.015 to .013) but Sattem ran within .017 of his dial in to defeat Jackson who was off by .072. In the other semi-final round, 2011 Pro Champion, Nick Shepherd defeated 2011 Motorcycle Champion, Roger Wolff. The race was decided on a double break out, as each driver went under his selected dial in. Shepherd’s 10.643 (10.67 dial in) was closer than Wolff’s 9.466 (9.59 dial in).

In the NHRA National Dragster Challenge classes, Bill King, Steve Stuart, Derrick Jackson, and Roger Wolff earned the victories and claimed their National Dragster Challenge “Wally” for their efforts. In the Super Pro finals, Bill King and his Falcon downed Danny Wargnier and his Vega by virtue of the red light. King ran 8.35 at 162 mph in the victory. Kurt Goss was the lone semi-finalist. In the Pro finals, recently crowned NHRA Northwest Division Pro Champion, Steve Stuart, continued his hot streak by taking the win over John Larson. Stuart launched with a .017 and cruised to the win with a 9.35 elapsed time at 131 mph. Bryce Moilanen was Stuart’s victim in the semi-finals. In the Sportsman finals, 2011 Woodburn Dragstrip Sunoco Race Fuels Sportsman Champion, Derrick Jackson dialed 12.68 and ran 12.683 to defeat Jim Lamkin. Jim has had a great season as well at Woodburn Dragstrip, having earned the Nostalgia Hot Rod Series Street Machine II title in 2011. Robert Glafka was the lone semi-finalist in Sportsman. In the Motorcycle finals, 2011 Woodburn Dragstrip Sunoco Race Fuels Champion, Roger Wolff, defeated Shawn Blehm. Wolff had a .04 advantage at the tree and carried it on to victory, running 9.624 seconds at 142 mph on his Kawasaki. Blehm gave it a valiant effort, running 7.90 at 166 mph on his Suzuki. Michael Gosselin earned a semi-final finish in Motorcycle class.

In the completion of the rained-out A-1 Transmissions and Converters Package-for-the-Points event from the previous week, Devon Hilton earned the victory over Bruce Riedl. In Run Tuff, Ron Wirostek drove his ’23 T to victory over Bill McNeal’s ’57 Chev.
