Alan Ross ~ 2016 Nostalgia Hot Rod Series ~ Hot Rod Champion
In the Nostalgia Hot Rod Series, the Hot Rod class is for cars 1965 and Older that run 9.00 – 12.99. The first race of the season was held on April 23rd for the Bi-Mart 14th Annual Tulip Festival. The Hot Rod class was able to get the semifinal round completed where Brett Davis took the win over Steve Canton and Alan Ross earned a single. The final round was not able to be completed due to Mother Nature. The Nostalgia Hot Rod Series #2 scheduled for May 14th was not completed due to inclement weather.
On June 26th, at the NAPA Auto Parts/Bi-mart 40th Annual Oldies But Goodies, in a class of 51 racers, it was Cliff Waldron Jr and Rick Sales Sr. in the finals. To get there, Waldron Jr defeated Casey Cotterman, John Poublon, Rochelle Pappel, Richard Beyea, and earned a single in round 5. On the other side of the ladder, Sales Sr. had a single in round one and then defeated Morris Harvey, Jerry Cogar, and Steve Canton. In the finals, Waldron Jr took the win when he ran an 11.716 on his 11.68 dial, and Sales Sr. ran 10.338 on his 10.24 dial.
The next event was held on August 14th at the Wilson’s NAPA Auto Parts- GK Machine Inc.-Bi-Mart 28th Annual Hot Rod Nationals where Kacee Pitts and Alan Ross were in the finals. To get to the finals, Pitts downed Kevin Ward, Fred Hostler, Norm Davis, and Ron Parks while Ross defeated Steve Canton, Joel Schneeweis, Richard Dietrich and Rick Sales Sr. In the finals Pitts took the win when Ross broke on the starting line. Pitts went on to run a 9.555 on her 9.40 dial.
The fifth event of the year was held on September 24th, at the Bi-Mart 31st Annual Fall Classic where John Masterman and Alan Ross lined up next to each other in the finals. Masterman’s route to the final went through racers Fred Etter, a single pass in the 2nd round, Norm Davis and another single in round 4. For Ross: Jerry Cogar, Morris Harvey, Brett Davis, and Rick Sales Sr., were the victims. In the final round, the race ended before it even began when Ross turned one the dreaded red light by just -.006. Masterman ran 12.608 on his 12.58 dial.
On October 1st, the last Nostalgia Hot Rod Series, Hot Rod race was held. This time it was Jerry Cogar and Alan Ross in the final round. Cogar eliminated Rick Sales Sr. and Fred Hostler while Ross eliminated Brett Davis and Jim Cotterman. In the finals, it was over before it began when both drivers turned on the dreaded red light. Ross’s reaction time was -.003 to Cogar’s -.054 giving the win to Cogar.
