A team meeting will be held at he conclusion of the event on Saturday, August 16th. All Woodburn Dragstrip team members are requested to attend. Sould you know that you will not be racing for Team Woodburn, please let the office know as soon as possible.
Six members of the VP Fuels ET Finals have already earned their spot on Woodburn Warriors roster. Fifty additional members will be determined by the race to be held on August 16.
At that event, the two members from the Import contingent will be selected. Also to be determined will be the four members from Bike/Sled, the twelve members from Sportsman, the eighteen members from Pro, the fourteen members from Super Pro, and the four team captains.
The members having already earning their right to be on the team are Jerold Mix in the JDRL 8 & 9 Year Old Class, Bryan Santino in JDRL Thunder, Grace Presser in JDRL Lightning, Casey Ladd in JDRL Fast, as well as Charlie Tiller and Josh Wilson from High School.
Should any of the team members who earn the right to represent Woodburn Dragstrip at the ET Finals not be able to attend that event or choose to race for another team, we will select the next driver with the most points in that class to fill that position.
The current leader in Import Sportsman is Derrick Jackson. He holds a 60 point lead over James Bruce. About the only way the selection would be close is if Derrick should lose in the first round and James would win the event. In Import Pro, Mark Hunt holds a 20-point lead over Bud Kuhns, with Pamela McClaskey only 10 additional points behind and Bernd Arndt and Steven Wendt 10-points behind Pamela. My analysis is that Mark remains in the driver's seat. Unless he loses, no one can take the spot from him. If that should happen, the above-named racer who goes the farthest could earn that spot.
In Sportsman class, my opinion is that likely, Derrick Jackson has cinched the title, with Jerry Durant, Jr. as runner up. Robert Glafka will likely have the number 3 spot unless he is out of competition early and either Robert Schaffer and/or Jerry Durant, III advance. Competition for sport 10, 11, and 12 on the roster is very intense. Charlene Ross, Cindy Harrison, and Gary Adamson's fate rests on the first three rounds of competition. Win and they are in; lose and they could be bumped out. Lavonne Goodman, Shannon Stuart, Angela Moilenan, Jim Tucker and Tracy Herincks could each join the team by having a good day on the 16th.
The 18-member Pro Bracket contingent is shaping up this way: It appears that Steve Kelly will repeat as Champion again in 2008. Kory Alby is strong in second place, with Bryce Moilanen in third. The fourth spot, currently held by Rich Potter could be in jeporady if he should lose early. Dennis George Jr, Tony Price, Jim Goodman, Randy McKee, or Paul Miller are poised to move into that spot if all of the stars align themselves correctly. Andy Harris, Dave & Sherry Wilson, and Steve Stuart need to go several rounds to insure their place on the team. Should either of them falter, possible members could be Nicholas Shepherd, Gary Fetters, Kevin Fletcher or Hollis Runge.
In Super Pro, I cannot predict a champion at this time. The point spread is too close. Mark Dawson has a 16-point advantage over Devon Hilton. Devon would need to advance two rounds past Mark in order to overtake him. "Package for the points" will be critical in this class. Gary Ericksen and Donny Richards currently hold the number 3 and 4 spots respectively, but right on their tail is Dennis Weddle, Jeremy McGhee, David Pracht, and Roger Weddle. Either of these could propel themselves into the top-4 at the final event. Danny Wargnier is in number 14 bump spot. Nick Bresaw, Gary Wargnier, and Dan & Vicki Shepherd, Mike Nicholson, Craig Tharp, or Bill McNeal could each have a successful day and earn their place on the 2008 elite team.
The battle in Motorcycle is for the number 1 position. Currently, Roger Wolff and Eric Johns are poised for the duel to be waged on August 16th. Other team members likely will be Van Smith and Daniel London. However, Mike O'Leary has an outside chance should Daniel falter early. Terry Giese would need to win the event and the "package for the points" to have an outside shot as well.
No matter what, if you want to be on the team, the date of August 16th is the event to enter. Even though I have given my prognostication, it does not mean a thing until the points are scored. Any you cannot score points if you are not here. I certainly wish you well, and hope you earn your chance to be part of the Woodburn Warriors, as we are on the attack for #14.
